The fox moth is one of the larger and easily recognizable eggars of our fauna. It can be easily recognized by two pale parallel stripes on the front wing. Males are smaller with wider antennae and females larger with filamentous antennae. Adult moths are active at night from May to August. The fox moth inhabits various grassland, shrub habitats and forest edges. Caterpillars of this species are feed on a large number of perennial plants such as blackberries and various legumes. The caterpillars are very mobile and can often be seen in September and October moving in search of another plant or place to pupate. This species inhabits the whole of Croatia and is one of the most common species of eggars.
