This mountain species belongs to the medium-sized but easily recognizable snout moths. It can be recognized it by its two-colored wings of light and dark brown color with a round white dott. The scales on its wings fall off the wings very easily and the individuals soon lose their patterns and the wings become translucent. Adult moths are active between May and August. Caterpillars of this species feed on spruce leaves and less often on other conifers. Accordingly, the distribution of this species in Europe coincides with the distribution of spruce forests. In Croatia, this species is found in the mountainous areas of Gorski Kotar, Velebit and Lika. Although it belongs to the local species with a relatively small number of recent observations, it can be very common in suitable habitats.
