The Glanville fritillary is usually the first fritillary that you will see in the beginning of the season. Like the Freyer’s fritillary (Melitaea arduinna), it is characterized by black spots in the fields that follow the edge of the hind wing.  However, comparing with Freyer’s fritillary, these fields are not protruding on either side, but are more regular, square like in shape. It inhabits almost all meadows that are not too altered with agriculture, areas near forests, roads and settlements. The host plants are from the genus Plantago and Veronica. In Serbia this is a common species and it is rarely found only in the region of Vojvodina. his species areal extends from North Africa, through much of Europe to the central parts of Asia.
