This species belongs to the larger moths and we recognize it by the unique white patterns on the front wings that look like tears. Sexual dimorphism is also present in this species, with females being larger and lighter, while males are smaller and darker in color. It inhabits humid habitats, forest edges and clearings, and ruderal areas. Caterpillars of this species feed on a variety of grasses and sedges. They can often be seen as drinking drops of dew accumulated on the grass, which is why the species got its English name - drinker. In Croatia, this species is found mainly in the continental part of the country, and is most common in wetlands along rivers and streams.
